I love living in a place that’s full of genuinely creative people who keep it fresh and interesting. My area is full of old warehouses that make it feel more like Berlin than East London
Superstylist Steph Wilson has worked with the best of the best. From Burberry to BAFTA , Elle to Esquire and from Daniel Craig to Daisy Lowe, her client list reads like a who’s who of the film and fashion industries. We caught up with Steph at her super cool East London pad to check out some of her favourite things….
Describe your style at home? Mid-century modern and masculine.
What kind of vibe does your home have? Eclectic, calm and cosy. I’m a natural hoarder so the big rooms allow me to pretend I’m more minimal than I actually am!
How do you use the space? I often use it for work so I always have lots of bags of clothes piled up in my living room! I’m very lucky to have a separate kitchen diner to escape to and the modern architecture is really spacious. I love having people over for dinner with all my friends sat around our big wooden dinner table and the lovely views of the new Olympic Park.
Where do you shop for your home? I’m a family furniture hoarder and junk shop junkie!
How has your work influenced your home? Working as a stylist has really influenced my interiors taste. My love of masculine shapes is definitely reflected by my mid-century modern masculine furniture.
Prized possession? My father’s old oak filing cabinet that my parents had refurbished for my 30th birthday present. Even though it’s full of my styling junk and not neatly-filed papers, I find it is the piece I’m most complimented on by visitors.
Favourite bargain at home? Probably my 50s G-Plan-style sideboard that I found in a junk shop 10 years ago for £25 (including delivery – genius)
Biggest extravagance? Well apart from heels and masculine coats it’s probably roses for the flat. I love the contrast of old-fashioned, long-stemmed roses on my 1950s mannish furniture.
What do you love about your job? The unpredictable mix of amazing people and places.
What are you working on right now? I’m working on a relaunch project of a heritage UK denim brand and I’d love to work more closely on developing a brand as well as creating its look.
What’s coming up? A trip to Morocco for a commercial client and an editorial shoot in Azerbaijan
What is your favourite record? Oooh now that’s a hard one! I collect vinyl but it’s probably either ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order or ‘Anthem’ by N-Joi – there’s nowt better than an early 90s house classic!
What would you rescue in a fire? My original release 12″ of ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order and my nine year old grey, oversized Philip Lim overcoat.
How do you relax? I love watching box-sets on my iPad in bed. I’ve just finished series 3 of ‘Girls’ and I’m bereft.
